Montenegro, Albania, Norway and Ukraine joined the EU’s decision about prolongation of anti-sanctions, said the head of EU diplomacy Federica Mogherini.

It is noted that these countries «will ensure compliance of its national policy decision of the EU Council». Mogherini added that the EU welcomes their position.

Montenegro and Albania are among the countries candidates for accession to the EU. Norway and Ukraine are not EU members, however, regularly joining his decisions in the matter of anti-Russian restrictions. Also the anti-Russian sanctions had previously been joined by Iceland, which is not part of the EU, but has implemented them into domestic legislation.

The Council of the EU on 28 June formally extended for six months economic restrictions against Russia. This decision of the President of the European Council Donald Tusk argued, «the failure of Russia to fulfill the Minsk agreements».

Moscow believes this approach is absurd, since Russia is not included in the number of parties to the Ukrainian conflict. The Kremlin said that the sanctions are not able to solve any task set by the EU in relations with Russia. In response to the extension of the EU sanctions, Moscow has moved the time of cancellation food embargo until the end of 2018.
