Russia is counting on the support of partners in the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, China, India, South Africa) at the upcoming December this year in Buenos Aires Ministerial meeting of the world trade organization (WTO), said Wednesday the Minister of economic development of Russia Maxim Oreshkin.

«The BRICS countries share common interests on many issues, and we believe that the platform of the BRICS can and should make use of existing advantages in forming a framework for future multilateral consensus. Together we can advance the global economy and the multilateral trading system, even if there are disagreements with other members (WTO — ed.),» he said. at the meeting of Ministers of economy and foreign trade of the BRICS countries.

He stressed that Russia counts on the support of the BRICS countries in the event of a resumption of negotiations in the WTO on the clarification of agreements on anti-dumping, subsidies and compensating measures.

«We also urge the BRICS members to take an active part in the discussions of the WTO on e-Commerce and small and medium business», — said the Russian Minister.

… Recalled that Russia had previously submitted to the WTO a proposal for the elimination of special safeguard (SSG), which is used by some WTO members. «It can balance our rights along with those members who use this tool,» — said the Minister.

«We consider special protective measures as a rudiment that has already served its purpose and should be eliminated», — said the Minister, adding that the elimination of the SSG will be useful to all BRICS countries, as none of them uses this tool.
