Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilyeva believes that school children should play chess in their spare time for free, she told about it in interview to the newspaper «Izvestia».

«I am convinced that the school should play chess. With statistics it is difficult to argue. In our country and abroad have children who play chess in school, learning achievement is above 35-40%. This intellectual game develops the child… children need to play chess in school in their spare time for free,» — said the Minister.

She also noted that under extracurricular activities in schools necessarily allotted ten hours a week, which «should be used». «The case for small — need to want. Will be sent out recommendations to the regions,» she added.

Earlier, the press service of the Public chamber of the Russian Federation said that Moscow, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, Kaluga and Leningrad region can become pilot regions, which will start the program of introducing chess in schools.
