The choice of a used car should be approached more carefully than to purchase new. Even after just two or three years of operation of the machine the likelihood of breakdowns and other unpleasant surprises is greatly increased. RIA Novosti continues the series of materials, which tells future owners about the advantages and disadvantages of the different models on the market second-hand.

This time the subject of our study were «twins» Hyundai Solaris and Kia Rio. From a technical point of view, they are almost identical, but from the point of view of sales are the best sellers of the Russian market of new cars. In February this year a Solaris second generation, and in early August, to rest went the third Rio, replaced by the fourth generation of the model. According to the Association of European businesses in Russia, with 2011 car dealerships has left more than 1.2 million copies of these Korean cars, thousands are now waiting for their second or third owners on websites for selling used cars.

If the new Solaris in the average cost of 770 thousand rubles, the price of the car b/u is 560 thousand, and the cars up to facelift (released in 2010-2014) will cost about 440 thousand rubles. Easy choice

Throughout the life cycle of the first generation of Hyundai Solaris and third-generation Kia Rio, both cars were supposed to just two petrol atmospheric engine series Gamma: 1.4-liter 107 HP and 135 Nm and a 1.6-litre returns 123 HP and 155 Nm. From a technical point of view, both motors are the twins the only difference is the combustion chamber volume and piston stroke. Both engines feature chain-driven camshaft (timing) belt tensioner, unpretentious and able to digest gasoline with an octane rating of 92 Ron. The amount of oil (viscosity from 0W-30 to 5W-40) when replacement is 3.3 liters.

Up to 100 thousand kilometers to worry about the motors not worth it, but after it is necessary to check the degree of tension of the timing chain (and follow it following every 50 to 100 thousand kilometers). It will open in danger of bending the valves, and the repair will entail large spending, including the complete replacement of the engine block. Automatic transmission A4CF1 got «Solaris» and «Rio» from Mitsubishi and, in fact, was a copy of the unit F4A42, developed by the Japanese in 1997. Apart from being adaptive, i.e., adjusts the switching time under the style of riding driver, he’s also very reliable. However, in some cases, runs 70-140 thousand scattered bearing idler gear of a pair, which led to the overhaul of the box. Crash tests by technique Euro NCAP was carried out by the newspaper «Autoreview» only in 2011 and only Hyundai Solaris. But given the same power structure of bodies of both models, the results can be applied to the Kia Rio.

For the tests were selected machine in the basic configuration with one airbag and seat belt pretensioners.
