The construction of the world’s second largest power plant Baihetan started on Thursday in the Jinsha river in South-Western China in the provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan, reports channel CGTN.

Currently Baihetan is the largest under construction power plant. To complete the construction of hydroelectric power plants is planned in 2022, when it is fully commissioned, its capacity will reach 16 GW, and annual electricity production will reach 60,24 terawatt-hours.

The construction of dams for hydroelectric power plant began in 2008, after the construction is completed in 2021 it will be the third volume of dam body dam in China and fourth in the world.

Hydropower capacity will be implemented through the 16 turbines with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts each.

The largest hydroelectric power plant in the world is hydroelectric power station «Three gorges» on the Yangtze river in China’s Hubei province.
