The President of Russia Vladimir Putin will hold a meeting on Baikal environmental development of the reserve and will meet with the heads of the regions affected by forest fires.

Initially, the total funds amounted to 58 billion rubles, but now funding for the program reduced by more than 50%. The goal of the program is the protection of lake Baikal and the protection of the Baikal natural territory against the adverse effects of anthropogenic, technogenic and natural factors.

Protected area

The Baikal state nature biosphere reserve occupies an area of mountain range Hamar-Daban stretches in a latitudinal direction along the southern coast of lake Baikal. The main watershed of the Khamar-Daban conditionally divides the reserve into two unequal parts: the biggest Northern, exciting in addition to the Northern slopes of the ridge also strip the Baikal coast and lower South.
