Alexandrinsky theater of St. Petersburg presented on Saturday in the Japanese theater center in the mountains of Toyama Prefecture, the village of Toga performance of its artistic Director Valery Fokin at the tragedy of William Shakespeare’s «hamlet.»

The premiere in Japan was held in the framework of «Russian seasons» under the auspices of the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation.

As reported RIA Novosti, the artistic Director of the theater, on that stage he was invited by the Japanese themselves, who very much liked the performance. According to Fokine, Russian ballet in the great hall, almost 1,000 people, and Japan had to play in the Playground at 350-400.

«The fact is, it was necessary to do a new version. I was ready and my actors already know what it is necessary to always adapt the show to a different space, a different context, country, audience,» said the Director.

It took other decorations. The Japanese made copy of the Russian scenery, but only less, that is, by typing it in the size of the local scene.

«I must say that they did it very good, because the scenery is a multilayered structure,» — said Fokin. In addition, they had to completely redo all of the staging, to adapt the sound of what the team had only two days of rehearsals.

As noted by Fokine, the show was busy of 30 foreign trainees from Japan, Argentina, Australia, who do not know Russian language. «And so they had to learn a very difficult plastic score — they participated in the mass scenes — and to adapt,» said the Director.

In «hamlet» productions of Fokine fragments of the different translations of Shakespeare, and the text in it is not poetic. «It says our author Vladimov by Ivanovym, and the language is not Shakespearean, and modern adaptation,» said Fokin.

«We play in Russian, but Japanese people understand everything by reading the captions on the screen,» he said, noting that he was pleased with the premiere in Japan.
