Soldiers shot the attacker a terrorist with a knife in Brussels, did not violate rules of self-defense, but the final conclusion will be later, said the Prosecutor’s office of Brussels.

Military patrol on Friday evening opened fire in the centre of Brussels after them shouting «Allahu Akbar» attacked with a man with a knife. One soldier received a slight wound in the face, the other hand. The identity of the attacker installed is a 30-year-old native of Somalia who received Belgian citizenship in 2015. He acted alone and did not appear in the list of persons suspected of terrorist activities. In February 2017, he was prosecuted for causing bodily harm.

In a statement, the Brussels Prosecutor’s office notes that the office investigates each case of use of service weapons by law enforcement officials. The public prosecutors have confirmed that soldiers fired twice at the suspect when he attacked them with a knife.

«Thus, the shots fit into the framework of legitimate self-defence according to the rules of engagement,» reads a communiqué of the Prosecutor’s office.

The Prosecutor’s office notes that the final conclusion will be made after receiving the results of the autopsy of the suspect and ballistics.
