Ryabkov also said that Moscow considers the intention of Moldova a new link in «a series of hostile actions». The authors of the initiative, as the diplomat stressed, «must realize their inevitable negative impact on bilateral cooperation and on the Transnistrian conflict settlement process».

«PR stunt» and provoking a war

Earlier, the Ambassador of Moldova to the UN Victor Moraru sent to the Secretariat of the organization of the letter, which said that Moldova intends to submit to the agenda of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly the question of the withdrawal of the foreign military.

Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia said that the initiative of the Moldovan government, damaging to the peace process established in the 5+2 format (Moldova, Transdniestria, Russia, Ukraine, OSCE, EU and the United States — ed.)».

The President of Transnistria Vadim Krasnoselsky criticized the initiative and said that the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers will provoke a war in the region.

«Peace in our land, provide peacekeeping forces, primarily the Russian Federation. And if you remove the peacekeepers going to war. According to the decision of the constitutional court of Moldova recognized the land occupied. So, you can use military force. Tiraspol stands for the preservation of peace is a non-negotiable issue for us», — he said.

The head of Moldova Igor Dodon also is not supported the initiative and called it «an empty PR move». He said that the Cabinet should focus on restoring the trust between Tiraspol and Chisinau.

The unrecognized Republic

Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic (PMR), where 60% of the population are Russians and Ukrainians, declared independence from the Moldovan SSR in 1990. In 1992, the PMR after the armed conflict, declared independence and was in fact beyond the control of Chisinau’s territory. Moldova decisions have not recognized. At the moment the question of the status of Transnistria remains controversial.

On the territory of Transnistria located operative group of Russian troops, which is the successor of the 14th combined arms army which after disintegration of the USSR was transferred under the jurisdiction of Russia. Its tasks include peacekeeping and protection of warehouses with ammunition.
