Several hundred residents of Gaza Saturday night for the first time in 30 years was able to watch a movie in the cinema, reports the AFP.

Reportedly, the oldest theatre of Gaza, «Samer» has opened its doors to audiences for one night only. On Saturday the cinema was attended by about 300 men and women. Show the audience the feature film «Ten years» tells the story of the Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons. The picture was shot entirely in Gaza.

According to the Agency, cinema «Samer» was built in 1944, in 1960-ies it was closed. All the other cinemas in Gaza were closed in the late 1980s, during the «first intifada».

The organizer of the show Ghada Salmy told the news Agency that the event is a symbol of the efforts to «revival of cinema in Gaza».

The first Palestinian intifada (1987 — 1991) — the struggle of the Palestinians against the Israeli occupation of the conquered in the six day war of 1967 territories.
