The number of Russian speakers outside Russia decreased to 50 million people for 25 years, said the Chairman of state Duma Committee on science and education Vyacheslav Nikonov.

«Up to 50 million people reduced the number of speakers in the world since the collapse of the Soviet Union. And the trend continues», — said Nikonov to journalists.

«It’s irreversible, because the Russian language was preserved only where it is part of the education system… If it is mandatory or it is a state, as in Belarus, there is no problem. Kyrgyzstan is now mandatory,» — said Nikonov.

The Deputy noted that «Tajikistan is ready to accept our teachers, ready to have more students from Tajikistan and they studied Russian language»

«There are countries where a huge demand for Russian language: Tajikistan, Moldova, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan. Now maybe something in Uzbekistan», — said Nikonov.
