Pope Francis, from 27 to 30 November, will make an Apostolic visit to Myanmar from 30 November to 2 December in Bangladesh, said Monday the head of the print service of the Holy see Greg Burke.

In Myanmar, the Pontiff intends to visit the capital Naypyidaw and the country’s largest city Yangon and Bangladesh is planning to visit Dhaka.

Burke noted that the next foreign trip of the Pope will attend at the invitation of the heads of state and of the Catholic bishops of the respective countries. The program of the papal visit will be announced later.

As reported by RIA Novosti in the press service of the Holy see, we are talking about the first ever Pope’s visit to Myanmar. Moreover, it will be the first time in years of the current pontificate that Pope Francis will visit the country, which previously had never been one of his predecessors on the Apostolic throne.

As for Bangladesh, Pope Paul VI visited in 1970, even before the independence of this country from Pakistan. In 1986, the visit to Bangladesh caused the Pope John Paul II, who then held a meeting there with the Burmese Catholics.
