The Russian Orthodox Church is planning to involve in the world Cup 2018 in Russia, the Orthodox volunteers who will acquaint visitors with native culture, and to organize the work of prayer spaces in the experience of the Sochi Olympics, said Monday at a press conference Deputy Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media of the Moscow Patriarchate Vakhtang Kipshidze.

The first ever world Cup in Russia will take place from June 14 to July 15, 2018 in 11 cities of the country.

«Following the experience of the Russian Orthodox Church and other religious organizations that are members of the Interreligious Council of Russia, the Church will continue to cooperate with the government in preparation for the 2018 FIFA world Cup. And above all, it is about ensuring the faithful participants the necessary capabilities in order to pray, organize the presence of the clergy,» said the Kipshidze.

He noted that the experience of the Olympic games 2014 in Sochi was in this case «very successful» when followers of traditional religions has opened special prayer rooms in places of competition.

Also, according to Kipshidze, the Church traditionally participates in the organisation of the volunteer movement, without which today’s «impossible the organization of events of such a smart structure».
