The legendary American tenor saxophonist and flutist Lew Tabackin arrived to Koktebel, at the invitation of James Perch. The latter has a special privilege at the festival: he selects the musicians who enter the stage with him. With Russia 77-year-old native of Philadelphia has long-standing love: American singer first performed in Moscow in the early 1990s with the orchestra of Oleg Lundstrem. It was then that the saxophonist met the young James Perch.

Later Tabakin returned to Russia — went on tour and gave workshops. As noted by the musician in an interview, he drew attention to the fact how many talented saxophonists. Among others, he singled out Sergei Bunt. Over the years Tabakin acquired a large number of friends among Russian jazzmen, therefore, at the Koktebel Jazz Party, he was greeted not just as a «living legend», but as a friend.

Also wrote about this jazz and Western publications, which have traditionally published announcements and the program of the festival. «Politics may divide us, but music unites,» was the title of an American Magazine Elmore. Russian and foreign singers, who spoke to President Putin, could not be better proved this thesis.
