The liberal democratic party supports the renaming of the Moscow Volgogradsky Prospekt, Prospekt Heroes of Stalingrad, reported on Monday the press service of the party.

According to the press service, during the weekend, the leader of LDPR Vladimir Zhirinovsky has called for Moscow media festival in Victory Park, where one of the guests asked for the policy to rename Volgograd prospectus on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the battle of Stalingrad.

«Vladimir Zhirinovsky has completely supported this idea. The faction of the liberal democratic party has made a proposal to rename the city of Volgograd to Stalingrad. And, of course, the faction will support the initiative to call the Volgograd Prospekt in Moscow, the prospectus of Heroes of Stalingrad», — stated in the message.

Battle of Stalingrad — one of the largest in the great Patriotic war of 1941-1945. It began on 17 July 1942, lasted 200 days and nights on the banks of the don and the Volga, and then at the walls of Stalingrad (1961 — Volgograd) and in the city, and ended on 2 February 1943. The battle unfolded on an area of about 100 thousand square kilometers with the length of the front from 400 to 850 kilometers. Participated in it on both sides at different stages of the fighting over 2.1 million people.

Battle made a decisive contribution to the achievement of radical change in the great Patriotic war. Soviet forces seized the strategic initiative and kept it until the end of the war.
