The Muslims invited the mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin personally participate in the celebrations on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, told journalists the first Deputy Chairman of the Council of Muftis of Russia Rushan Abbyasov.

«We believe it’s important that the mayor of our capital could go, and congratulate you personally…. We want to revive the tradition when the mayor of the capital came to the mosque and congratulated the faithful,» said Abbyasov.

He believes that this contributes to «peace and harmony» in a multiethnic and multi-confessional Moscow. Now, according to him, an appeal on behalf of the President, the Prime Minister and the mayor read out to the believers the head of the Council of Muftis of Russia Ravil Gainutdin.

Eid al-Adha is one of two major holidays in Islam, the feast of the Hajj, which is celebrated 70 days after Uraza-Bairam.
