The bust of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin will appear in the London science Museum, the opening ceremony of the monument will take place on Wednesday evening, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday the representative of the Museum.

«Bust of Yuri Gagarin will be installed in a permanent gallery «space exploration», — said the Agency interlocutor.

Open bust Gagarin Museum Director Ian Blatchford, the opening ceremony will be attended by Russian and British diplomats, and the opening will be held in the framework of the bilateral year of science and education of Russia and great Britain and of the Museum’s programme of evening events Lates.

Bust of the first cosmonaut as a gift to the Museum of science communicate to the international charity public Fund «Dialogue of cultures – United world», which implements projects that aim strengthening of friendly relations between different countries.

Already 27 countries, including France, Italy, USA and India, had previously received a gift of busts of Gagarin.

Another monument to Yuri Gagarin — a copy of a monument created in 1984, the 50th anniversary of the cosmonaut’s famous sculptor Anatoly Novikov, opened in 2011 in front of the building of the British Council in London. The monument was a gift to Britain from the Russian space Agency on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the cosmonaut’s visit to Britain.

A half later, the monument moved to the grounds of the Royal Observatory on the outskirts of the British capital Greenwich and since then stands on the terrace, named after the first cosmonaut.

London science Museum recently often organizes events related to the achievements of the USSR and Russia in the space sector. So, in March of this year the first woman-cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova was opened at the Museum an exhibition dedicated to her life and achievements. In 2015, Tereshkova arrived in London for the opening of the exhibition «Cosmonauts: birth of the space age», held at the Museum of science with great success.
