To form in the Arctic sustainable security architecture that meets today’s challenges, it is possible only by joint efforts, taking into account the interests of all parties involved in the development of this region of the world, it is noted in the greeting of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to participants and guests of the VII international meeting of the Arctic Council, observer States and foreign scientific community.

The greeting of the President at the opening of the forum was read by the Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

According to Putin, the focus of the forum – the problem of international political and economic cooperation in the Arctic, the transport development of the region, the protection of its ecosystems and unique cultural patterns, as well as issues of extraction and transportation of Arctic hydrocarbon resources.

«Moreover it is symbolic that this forum is taking place in the village of Sabetta, where completing a large-scale energy project «Yamal LNG». This is a vivid example of mutually beneficial multilateral cooperation, respect for the fragile ecosystem of the Arctic. Such an open, equitable, effective approach is necessary for effective economic development of the Arctic, to strengthen the international political, economic, and social dialogue aimed at addressing the pressing issues of the region», — said Putin.

«I stress that only through collective efforts, considering the interests of all parties, we can move towards a sustainable security architecture in the Arctic, to meet the modern challenges,» the President added.
