Protection of the unique nature of the North, distinctive culture and lifestyle of its indigenous peoples remains a key priority of Russia in development of these territories, says the greeting message of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin to participants and guests of the VII international meeting of the Arctic Council, observer States and foreign scientific community.

The greeting of the President at the opening of the forum was read by the Secretary of the Russian security Council Nikolai Patrushev.

«Russia pays priority attention to the comprehensive development of its Northern territories, implementing long-term strategy for expansion of logistics infrastructure, creation of conditions for socio-economic and industrial growth. The implementation of these plans, we are ready for close cooperation with all stakeholders,» — said in greeting Putin.

«However, our key priority remains to protect the unique natural environment of the North, distinctive culture and way of life of indigenous peoples,» the President said.
