Us researchers have discovered genetic causes of eating disorders, particularly anorexia nervosa and bulimia. A study published in the journal PLoS One.

The scientists analyzed the genomes of 93 people, each of which was previously discovered eating disorder. As a result, the researchers found 431 gene associated with this group of syndromes, which formed two groups. The first of them is responsible for appetite control, as well as the consumption and digestion of food, the second is related to the immune system.

Scientists came to the conclusion that the potential of disorder at 50-80% depend on genetic factors.

The researchers emphasize that their findings correlated with the well-known manifestations of eating disorders – unusual diets or excessive physical exertion.
