The Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation adopted the decision on granting the Baikal airport in Ulan-Ude the status of «fifth freedom», the press service of the head of the Republic with reference to the transport Minister Maxim Sokolov.

On Wednesday in Ulan-Ude held a seminar on preparations for implementation of the intergovernmental agreement on international road transport along the Asian highway network with the participation of the head of the Ministry of transport, Deputy Minister of transport of China Li SAMINA, state Secretary- Deputy Minister of development of roads and transportation of Mongolia bat-Erdene of Jalavsuren.

«I want to note that the Ministry of transport decided on the development of air traffic of the Republic and granting the status of «open skies» airport of Ulan-Ude on the fifth degree of freedom,» — said Sokolov.

According to him, the capital of Buryatia, Ulan-Ude will become the fourth city in the country that will receive the open status of the airport on the fifth degree. Currently, the «open skies» operating in Vladivostok, Sochi and Kaliningrad.

«This is an opportunity not only for further development of air links with the possibility of landing aircraft from Asia in Ulan-Ude and their appearance on the European continent, but also the multiplier for the development of tourist and investment attractiveness of the Republic. I am sure that this news will positively perceived in the countries of South-East Asia and Pacific region», — said the head of Ministry of transport of the Russian Federation.

The acting head of the Republic Alexei Tsydenov said that a decision on the airport — a big step towards improving the accessibility of the region, improving tourist and economic potential of the Republic — this decision will contribute to the development of tourism and increase of investment attractiveness of the Republic of Buryatia.

The fifth degree of freedom air provides flight operations to the airport by any foreign carrier with almost no restrictions, regardless of the agreement air service of his country with Russia. Foreign airlines will not only without restrictions to perform international flights from Ulan-Ude, but also to make transit flights between third countries with a stopover in lake Baikal.
