New Russia’s Ambassador to the U.S. Anatoly Antonov expects that the U.S. will realize the futility of the attempts of pressure on Russia, because Moscow and Washington have a special responsibility for global stability and security.

«We hope that Washington will still prevail common sense and the understanding of the futility of attempts of pressure upon our country. We must not forget that Russia and the United States with the largest nuclear capabilities bear a special responsibility for global stability and security. When we act together in the international arena, then the world is becoming safer and safer,» — said Antonov in interview to the newspaper «Kommersant».

In his words, «remains relevant bilateral cooperation on key issues on the international agenda, including the fight against terrorism, combating drug trafficking, organized crime, cyber». «Our countries as a whole would be equally profitable to build such a model of interaction that would ensure predictability, rule out unpleasant surprises, minimizes market fluctuations, allowing to take measures in advance to prevent tension», — said Antonov.

Relations between Russia and the USA in recent times is seriously complicated. The administration of President Barack Obama at the end of December 2016, passed a package of anti-Russian sanctions because of alleged «interference in election» and «pressure on American diplomats» working in Russia. Among other things, the United States has closed access to the two residential complexes, the so — called suburban «summer cottages» Russia’s permanent mission in new York and the Russian Embassy in Washington, which is the Russian diplomatic property.

In the summer Moscow has ordered to reduce the U.S. diplomatic mission in Russia to 755 to 455 employees. Thus, Moscow has equated the number of employees of the U.S. Embassy in Russia, the number of employed in the Russian diplomatic mission in the United States.

After that, the U.S. has suspended the procedure for issuing non-immigrant visas across all Russia, from September 1 this procedure resumes, but only at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow. Washington explained the innovations to the reduced number of staff of the diplomatic mission in Russia. Early American visa issued Consulate in St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg and Vladivostok.
