No signs of clericalism in the contemporary Russian state is not the growth of the authority of religious organizations in society, of course, is obvious, said Thursday at a roundtable in the Public chamber of the Russian Federation, the Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media of the Moscow Patriarchate, Vladimir Legoyda.
The discussion in the OP of the Russian Federation was devoted to the theme «the Secular state and the spiritual and moral development.»

«Today we often use the word «clericalisation». Clericalization has a definite shared understanding, and it zaklyuchaetsya that this is an attempt of religious organizations to usurp secular or even state, particularly state power. Today, we have no signs of clericalism in modern Russian conditions,» — said Legoyda.

At the same time, he acknowledged that the influence attempts of religious organizations in society and increase their credibility in society, «definitely exist».

«But it can not be called «clericalization». Because this effect does not apply and is not an attempt to usurp political power in the state. And such desires, open or even covert, does not exist», — said the head of the Synodal Department, citing a similar approach and other religions.

According to him, during the public discussions often mix the concepts of «secularity» and «secularism of society» that, in fact, different things, resulting in «I believe that there are signs of clericalism».

«Because secularity is identified with the secular society. It seems to me that this religious agenda that exists today in the public space, should not kompromentirovat, in my opinion, irresponsible statements about the threat of clericalism. The reasons for this. Or if you need to clarify what is meant by clericalization, and whether it is possible to call it clericalization», — said the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church.

As said Legoyda, who is also the Chairman of the Commission of the Council for cooperation with religious associations under the Russian President on the harmonization of interethnic and inter-religious relations, about the meaning of the term «secularism» still a need for extensive discussions to clarify the meanings and value.

«Secular officials — it eliminates the opportunity for officials to demonstrate their personal religious views? In fact, modern Russia does not exclude, and I think that’s right. Moreover, I believe that there should be no prohibition neither public figures nor public officials the opportunity to motivate their actions by their religious beliefs,» he said, in particular, Legoyda.
