The home office has explained the recent increase in the number of deportees EU citizens.

«We have strengthened measures against foreign nationals who abuse our hospitality by committing in the UK crime, causing suffering to victims and having negative impact on the community. Citizens of the European economic area, repeatedly involved in petty crime in this country, can expect a deportation order, valid from 5 to 10 years,» said RIA Novosti the representative of the Ministry.

«In addition, those who are sleeping in the street, can also lose the right to live in the UK and also be sent home. No one can come to the UK with the intention to live on the streets, and European citizens, so violate the rules of free movement,» he said.

The representative of the Ministry stressed that the Ministry is working with local authorities, social services and charities, to providing aid to the really needy, to fight illegal migration.

He also stressed that the Agency is working closely with the authorities in priority countries to make deportation process as simple as possible.

The Independent newspaper, noting that almost 5 thousand EU nationals were deported from Britain last year and that figure is 14% higher than the same period last year, suggested that this is due to the changing priorities of the British foreign office.

«This comes against the backdrop of a significant fall in the total number of deportees, which suggests that the attention of the Ministry of interior and its departments on migration issues has shifted in the direction of migrants from the EU», — the newspaper notes.

In the 2010-2011 year, from Britain, was deported 1 thousand 19 migrants from EU countries. In 2015-2016, that figure had tripled to 3 thousand 485 people.
