Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel discussed by telephone the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the press service of the Kremlin.

«The two leaders exchanged views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula in the context of recent provocative actions of the DPRK. Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel strongly condemned Pyongyang’s disregard of the resolutions of the UN Security Council», — is spoken in the message.

It is noted that such steps contradict the principles of the global non-proliferation pose a grave threat to regional peace and security.

In addition, it was confirmed that «the settlement of this acute crisis is possible only through political and diplomatic means, through the resumption of negotiations by all parties involved».

«They agreed to continue discussions at the level of foreign Ministers of the two countries,» — noted in a press-service of the Kremlin.
