Almost 100 thousands of believers in St. Petersburg took part in the procession in honor of the day of the relics of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky, has informed RIA of news in the communications sector St. Petersburg Metropolitanate.

The procession passed along the Nevsky Prospekt from the Kazan Cathedral to the Alexander Nevsky square.

«The procession was held today for the fifth time. It revived the tradition of St. Petersburg. This year the procession was headed by the ruling Bishop – the Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Varsonofy. In addition to the Kazan wonderworking icon of the Mother of God at the head of the procession carried the Greek revered image of the virgin Mary «Sumela», — said the head of communications of the Archdiocese of Natalia Rodomanova.

According to her, the icon of «Panagia Sumela» brought the Greek delegation with Metropolitan Panteleimon Vera at night on Tuesday. The clergy of the Greek Church will take part in all the festive events devoted to day of memory of the heavenly patron of St. Petersburg – St. Prince Alexander Nevsky. Greek the wonderworking icon of the Theotokos at the conclusion of the procession was brought to the Saviour-Transfiguration Cathedral, where it will be available for veneration by the faithful until September 18.
