President of the European Bank for reconstruction and development (EBRD) Suma Chakrabarti will visit Belarus on a visit on September 12-14.

«Suma Chakrabarti will visit Belarus for two days from 12 to 14 September 2017 for summit meetings with the Belarusian authorities and other key partners,» — said the representative office in the Republic.

It is expected that during his visit, Chakrabarti will sign an agreement on granting a subordinated loan with the Belarusian «Belinvestbank» memoranda of understanding for the development of local capital markets, commercialization and corporate governance of state owned enterprises, as well as the grant agreement with the EU on support of small and medium business in Belarus.

In addition, it is expected that the EBRD President will meet with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov. Meetings are also scheduled with representatives of business, discuss the business and diplomatic community and representatives of civil society organizations said in the representation.

«In recent years Belarus demonstrates the greater international openness and a greater willingness to discuss political developments, including the situation of human rights in the country. These changes also allowed the EBRD to adopt a new country strategy which provides for greater participation in public sector projects including state and municipal infrastructure and pre-privatization support of state enterprises», — underlined in the message.

With the beginning of its operations in Belarus in 1992, the EBRD has invested almost € 1.9 billion in 90 projects in various sectors of the economy.
