A significant reduction in US military presence in Afghanistan in the next two to three years is unlikely, said the candidate for the post of U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan John bass.

«I don’t think realistic to expect that in two or three years we will have (in Afghanistan) much less (military) presence,» said bass at the hearings in the Senate, where discussed his candidacy for the position of Ambassador.

He added that to reduce the military presence is possible through a political dialogue in Afghanistan between the warring parties, when «the Taliban* understand that by war they can not win».

The US and its allies since 2001 carried out an operation in Afghanistan against insurgents of movement «Taliban*» and IG* (banned in Russia). The administration of U.S. President Donald trump in August adopted a new strategy in the Islamic Republic. In the framework of the military strength grew by 3.5 thousand to 14.5 thousand people.
