International festival of animated films «KROK», the competition program which included films from 36 countries, kicks off in Moscow on 13 September and will be held on the boat, which will proceed on the route Moscow – Saint-Petersburg, reported the press service of the festival.

The opening ceremony will be held in the Central house of cinematographers, hereinafter «Step» will be traditionally held on the ship. This year, the ship will proceed on the route Moscow – Uglich – Goritsy – Mandrogi – Petrozavodsk — Valaam – St. Petersburg.

The competition program of the festival consisted of 131 films from 36 countries. All in all, the selection was filed 972 applications from 54 countries.

From the Russian participants of the competition were Nina Bisyarina («Holiday»), Igor Kovalyov («To love»), Natalia Chernysheva («cat and mouse»), Elena Kasavina («Two short stories»), Alexander Svirsky («9 ways to draw a person» and «Tanson»), Ivan Maksimov («Alternative walk»), Andrew Bakhurin («Output»), Svetlana Andrianova («Two tram»), Elizabeth Skvortsova («johnny-Bonnie-Bo»), Anna Budanova («Among the black waves»), Anton Diakov («Python and the watchman») and others.

Russian Directors present: Alexey Alekseev («Hunting») and Natalia Chernysheva («Spider») — France, Alex Budovsky («Brooklyn breezes») — Columbia, Dmitry Geller and Andrey Kulev («Fish, swimmers, ships») the film is a joint production of China, Russia and Bulgaria.

Other countries-participants of the festival «KROK-2017» were Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, great Britain, Hungary, Germany, Georgia, Denmark, India, Spain, Italy, Canada, China, Colombia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, USA, Taiwan, Ukraine, Finland, France, Croatia, Switzerland, Ecuador, Estonia, South Africa, South Korea, Japan.

The competition program will be judged by an international jury, which included Directors Peter Chung (USA), RAO Heidmets (Estonia), Suresh Ariat (India), Ekaterina Sokolova (Russia) and film critic Stanislav Suknenko (Ukraine).

Retrospectives and anniversaries

Traditionally the festival screenings full of retrospectives and commemorative programs. At this time, «KROK» will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great film Director Fyodor Khitruk, the 85th anniversary of the Creator of the «Adventures of captain Vrungel» and «treasure Island», the first President of KROK David Cherkasskiy, the 60th anniversary of the laureate of the award «Oscar» Alexander Petrov and many more.

One of festival days will be devoted to the birthday of the President of the festival, the Director-animator Yuri Norstein. Norstein will present restored copies of his film «Hedgehog in the fog», «Tale of tales» with a color — and svecokarelian in 4K.

In cities with stops in Uglich, Gorizia, Petrozavodsk entertainers will perform before audiences with master classes, concerts and fascinating stories about the profession, will show new and favorite old cartoons.

The festival closing and awarding ceremony will be held September 20 in St. Petersburg in the Open Studio «Lendok».

In previous years, «CROC» since its founding in 1989 were carried out on a parity basis, two countries — Russia and Ukraine — and was held in turn in one of the countries. In 2015, the festival became Russian, its founders are the Ministry of culture of Russia, Union of cinematographers of the Russian Federation.
