All-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM) is going to use the method of simulation of voting in the conduct of exit poll in the presidential elections of 2018: the Respondent will not give a verbal answer to the question of the sociologist, and will be able to note the result of the vote on the questionnaire, simulating the Bulletin and drop it in the trash, told RIA Novosti the General Director of VTSIOM Valery Fedorov.

Regular elections of the President of Russia will be held in 2018. Technology exit poll, that is, the exit polls from polling stations appeared in the mid 60-ies in the United States. Interviewers are not closer than 50 metres from the polling station and asked about the result of the vote only to those who already did it and goes to the site, said the head of VTSIOM.

«The main thing we would like to do is to ensure the reliability of the answers of the voters,» — said Fedorov.

He said that the biggest challenge for sociologists when conducting an exit poll lies in the fact that many respondents either do not want to participate in the survey – and this happens in most cases, or, by agreeing to respond for some reasons do not want to tell the truth.

«So we are trying by all means to ensure the sincerity of respondents’ answers. A very good way to simulate a vote. We don’t ask the person for whom you voted, and give him a toy that simulates the ballot, and he puts a check and throws it in an object that simulates the ballot box,» — said the sociologist.

He stressed that the respondents in the application of this method say that it is a survey that people were not misled. «I’m talking about the paper, simulating the Bulletin: it should look exactly the same as the ballot, but the voter should be no doubt that this is not a newsletter, and a questionnaire», — said the Agency interlocutor.

This method, according to him, shows good results, because the respondents believe that the secret ballot is preserved, and is not afraid to faithfully display the result. But it’s not very sophisticated, said Fedorov, is why sociologists are also working in order to speed up, technologized and automate the process of gathering information.

«What are you doing for an exit poll in this regard: generally moving away from paper, interviewers handed out the tablets, there is established a special program. And as soon as the Respondent who clicks on the label, simulating a newsletter, or inform the interviewer and he clicks, this information is immediately dumped into the database, data are collected from all over the country and we see in real time how everything is changing», — said the head of VTSIOM.

It is very important to strike a balance: on the one hand, reliability, adaptability and speed, he said. Fedorov explained that simulators urns, and tablets have been used previously by sociologists when conducting exit poll. He confirmed that the polls were plans to use some of these methods in the upcoming presidential elections in 2018. «Or both together — in the right proportion,» — said the Agency interlocutor.
