The Moscow city court on Wednesday upheld the arrest in absentia of businessman Nikolay Krivosha, accused of bribing the former head of Mari El Leonid Markelov, reported RIA Novosti his lawyer Igor Trunov.

«The court rejected an appeal against the decision on arrest in absentia of Kriusha,» said the defender.

The court previously issued a warrant for the arrest of the businessman, but later the Moscow city court has cancelled this decision.

Trunov insists that the arrest in absentia is not necessary, because his client is not hiding from the investigation and is on treatment in Israel, where left long before the commencement of the case.

Investigators believe that Markelov received proxy Natalia Kozhanov from the founder of the factory «Akashevskaya» Nicholas Krivosha more than 235 million rubles for the protection of and assistance in the disbursement of funds of state support.

Businessman charged in absentia for bribery, according to the investigator, he declared the Federal wanted list. Markelov and Kozhanov in custody.
