President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that Kiev intends to deepen cooperation with the EU before Ukraine «will be open membership» in the EU and NATO, said the press service of the head of state on Thursday.

According to the press service, the meeting with business representatives in Kyiv, the President said that Ukraine intends to further deepen cooperation with the European Union for the development of the state in the future – the acquisition of EU membership.

«We will expand our cooperation with the European Union. I believe that we can enter the Schengen Union. I believe that we can enter into the customs of the European Union. I believe that we can enter into the common energy Union. Believe that Ukraine will be a member of a common aviation area» — said Poroshenko.

According to him, such actions in Kiev should do before membership in the EU and NATO. «It’s the steps before will be opened for us, EU membership, NATO membership. But we have with you together, persistently and effectively work to meet the criteria,» — said the President.

Ukraine signed the Association agreement and free trade area with the EU in June 2014 simultaneously with Moldova and Georgia. In the same year on a provisional basis, some began to act a political part of the agreements. From January 1, 2016 came into force almost all the provisions concerning the establishment of a free trade zone. In may, the Parliament of the Netherlands the last of the legislative bodies of the EU have ratified the Association agreement, which allowed from 1 September to launch the agreement in full.

In late August, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said that Ukraine currently has no relation neither to the EU nor to NATO, and everyone should be aware of. Statements cadets are not left without attention of Kiev — the representative of Ukraine to the EU Nikolay Tochitskii appealed to the European Commission for clarification in connection with the statements of the President of the EC on Ukraine’s membership in NATO and the EU.
