Pyongyang continues a dangerous game «on the nerves», it proves the futility of sanctions and the necessity of finding a diplomatic solution, the fact that regular tests should be condemned because of the actions of the North Korean authorities threaten the security of the entire region, the Chairman of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Leonid Slutsky.

Pyongyang on Friday morning (0.57 GMT) re-launched ballistic missile. Japanese and South Korean military announced that it had reached a height of about 800 kilometers, flew over Japan and fell 2.2 thousand kilometers from Cape Erimo in Hokkaido. The range amounted to 3.7 thousand kilometers. The UN security Council on the initiative of the United States, Japan and South Korea held consultations.

«New missile test, the DPRK literally three days after the adoption of a new resolution of the UN security Council to toughen sanctions against Pyongyang, is certainly a challenge to the international community. Pyongyang continues a very dangerous game of nerves,» said Slutsky reporters.

«We need to find diplomatic alternatives to resolving North Korea problem, not to conduct exercises near the borders of North Korea threatening pre-emptive strikes and counter-launches. You need to keep cool. It is impossible to admit a power variant of development of events, given the unpredictability of Pyongyang’s actions. But the West is still not ready to give any security assurances of non-aggression and North Korea,» he concluded.

The UN security Council on 12 September in response to another missile and nuclear tests unanimously imposed new sanctions against the DPRK, which will significantly limit the export and import capabilities of Pyongyang. Resolution 2375 set the most stringent UN sanctions regime in the twenty-first century.
