The staff of the faculty of fundamental medicine of Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov, National medical research center of cardiology and Endocrinology research center analyzed the prospects for anti-inflammatory therapy of diabetes mellitus of the second type, the main cause of which is obesity. The work was carried out within the framework of the project supported by the Russian science Foundation grant, and its results were published in the journal International journal of Endocrinology.

Obesity is the main risk factor for the development of type II diabetes. This disease is now observed in 30% of the inhabitants of the Earth. Its development aggravates cardiovascular diseases and increases the probability of occurrence of cancer in patients, so the researchers note that the social importance of research on the development of type II diabetes is extremely high.

Thus, they support high inflammatory background fabric first and then the body. This process can be called latent inflammation. In the end, the person with obesity, increased inflammatory background, but not strong enough to cause a rise in temperature and other symptoms of acute inflammation.

Scientists have found that the party of the inflammatory process protein kinase IKK (an enzyme that can modify proteins) acts on the receptors in the membrane of fat cells, which are activated by insulin, and prevented the signal from insulin. The result is that the cage «feels» that it is insulin.

«To stop the inflammatory process, you must learn to control the protein kinase IKK, — says one of the authors of the article Yury Stafeev, graduate student, Department of biochemistry and molecular medicine, faculty of fundamental medicine of Moscow state University named after M. V. Lomonosov. — Protein kinase IKK is in the body always, in all organs and tissues as part of the signaling of the innate immune system. Without the protein kinase IKK, the body cannot defend itself against many infections. However, constant activation under conditions which do not require, can cause disease, including diabetes mellitus of the second type. The main protein kinase IKK, which is responsible for development of insulin resistance, — IKKbeta, but delete and block her otherwise it will destroy the immune system, so now we are trying to find feedback IKK with other «participants» signaling systems».

The paper discusses the current state of research on the question of the role of the inflammatory kinase IKK in the pathogenesis of diabetes of the second type. In the article, hypotheses about the possible prospects for the development of anti-inflammatory therapy of diabetes mellitus of the second type, including in the direction of personalized medical treatment.
