Sixth Elizabethan procession, dedicated to the memory of Holy Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna, will be held on 17 September in Moscow and will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the tragic events in Russia and to the day of the birthday of the Grand Duchess, reported Friday RIA Novosti the organizers.

Clarifies that a procession will be held with the blessing of Metropolitan of Krutitsy and Kolomna Juvenal, was initiated by the Odintsovo deanery and the Foundation «Elisabeth-sergievskoe educational society» (ESPO), with the participation of Prikhod Spasa nerukotvornogo obraza in the village of Usovo. In the estate of Ilyinskoye-Usovo Grand-Ducal couple has in the past celebrated the birthday of Elizabeth Feodorovna.

Also on 18 September, the Russian Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of the Holy righteous Elizabeth – patroness the great Duchess, and on September 17 will mark the 20th anniversary of the transfer of the remains of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, husband of Elizabeth Feodorovna, in the burial vault of the Romanov boyars in the Novospassky monastery.

Beautiful route through the places of memory

Organizers called the Elizabethan procession «historic».

«It is a beautiful route through the territory of the Grand-Ducal estate of Ilyinskoye-Usovo and brings together historical objects, manor houses, brings together a large number of pilgrims in prayer, saving and preserving places of memory of Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna,» — said the Agency interlocutor.

In Il, the estate of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich in the years 1891-1905, the former Governor-General of Moscow, the couple spent the summer, and in September the whole house, on rafts, crossed the Moscow river in Usovo, where he built a winter home. The participants in the procession, according to tradition, also swim in one of the most picturesque places of the Moscow river.

Many of the historic buildings of the estate associated with the charitable activities of the Grand-Ducal couple, have survived to the present day: the building of an infirmary for the soldiers of the Russo-Japanese war, maternity shelter, schools, the public school Empress Maria Alexandrovna and others.

To save from destruction

Fund ESPO last few years has been scientific and public work to identify and preserve historical sites of the estate. As reported by RIA Novosti in ESPO, in recent years, many objects were saved from destruction and now «is a lot of work on the unification of the monuments of the estate (15 objects) in a single historical-cultural ensemble, which will be available to visitors and pilgrims».

As said the organizers of the procession, commemorative events will start at 9.30 am with the divine Liturgy in the Spassky Cathedral in the village of Usovo. At 12.00 the procession will start from temple of Elijah the Prophet Elias, at 13.00 will take place the crossing of the Moscow river from Elias in Usovo. Will end the procession with a joint prayer of Martyr Elizabeth Fyodorovna at the Cathedral of Vernicle in the village of Usovo. After the service, guests will operate a field kitchen.

In addition, in the Orthodox educational center «Usovo-Spassky» the pilgrims will be able to visit the exhibition «Imperial estate Ilinskoe-Usovo», prepared by the ESPO. Sixth Elizabethan procession is part of a program to perpetuate the memory of the new martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church and the preparation of the 100th anniversary of their memory.

The philanthropist and the ascetic

Great Princess of the reigning house of Romanov, the Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian society (IOPS) and the founder of the Marfo-Mariinsky convent of mercy in Moscow, Elizaveta Fyodorovna was one of the most famous philanthropists of his time. She led an ascetic life: nights caring for the seriously ill, worked the day, went around the poorest neighborhoods, she went to the Khitrov market, the most criminal place then Moscow, to come out of there young children.

Elizaveta Fyodorovna was arrested by the KGB and the Latvian Riflemen on the personal orders of Felix Dzerzhinsky. Patriarch Tikhon tried to get her released, but to no avail — she was arrested and deported from Moscow to Perm. On the night of July 5, 1918 Grand Duchess was killed – thrown alive into the mine New Selim 18 kilometers from the Ural Alapaevsk. Its the remains of the retreating White army took Beijing and then to Jerusalem, where the Princess wished to be buried.

In 1992 Arhierejsky the Cathedral of Russian Orthodox Church canonized her to sainthood. Earlier, in 1981, the Martyr was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church.
