The Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media Vladimir Legoyda said that Emperor Nicholas II was canonized by the Russian Orthodox Church for the Holiness of life lived, but for the fact that Christian took demise at the hands of the executioners.

«Once someone began to speak (on Nicholas II — edition): «he is a Saint? Abdicated from the throne, the country is destroyed, the king was useless»… Tsar Nicholas and his entire family humbly accepted the unjust persecution and faced death at the hands of executioners… that’s what Nicholas II and his family canonized. For what Christian perceived his sufferings and met his death», — quotes the press service of the Department of speech Legoyda.

According to him, the Emperor offered to leave the country. He could agree to avoid a terrible death. To emigrate, to save the life of yourself and your family. But he «deliberately did not want this, he deliberately remained in Russia».

Legoyda recalled that in the Church the name of the Royal family referred to as martyrs. And martyrs are people who were injured and who were killed not because they were Christians. But they were killed without guilt, and they to his persecutors and murderers were Christian meekness and love, fulfill the commandments of God.

«A Saint is not one who never sinned and certainly not wrong. The Bible plainly says that no man who would have lived and not sinned. A Saint is one who is committed to God, drawing near to God and the power of the grace of God triumphs over evil — in themselves and in the surrounding мире2, — said the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church.

He added that the Grand Duchess Olga wrote from the Ipatiev house the day before the shooting that «the father asks you to convey to all those who remained loyal to him, and those whom they may have influence, that they not avenge him — he forgave all, and for them to pray, and to remember that the evil which is now in the world, will be even stronger, but not evil conquer evil, but only love.»
