Funding for HIV in Russia should be increased, as allocated enough money to antiretroviral therapy is only one third of those infected, told reporters on Thursday, senior researcher Federal scientific and methodological center for prevention and control of AIDS «Central research Institute of epidemiology» of Rospotrebnadzor Natalia Ladnaya.

On Thursday in Ekaterinburg is the Ural forum «On measures to prevent the spread of disease caused by human immunodeficiency virus and associated diseases HIV infection». It was attended by heads and specialists of the regional ministries of health, health care institutions, AIDS centers.

«For us, this unfavorable factor is that we have a very small number of patients is under medical supervision and receiving treatment. That is, if we have 900 people living with diagnosed HIV infection receive antiretroviral therapy, we only have 300 thousand of them – that is, the third,» said fine, noting that the reason for this is, primarily, a lack of funding.

According to her, «this is clearly not enough». «As the global goals of the United Nations (under these objectives the Russian Federation has also signed up), we should identify 90% of HIV-infected persons, 90% of them we must take antiretroviral therapy, and 90% of them we have to suppress viral load», — said the expert, adding that this will help stop the spread of the virus.

According to her, at the end of 2016 in Russia there were more than 1,114 million HIV-infected people, of which nearly 250 thousand died. «It’s a lot, of course. And speaking of age groups, for example, in the age group of 30-35 years was already more than 2% of HIV-infected, for example, among men. And among men aged 35-39 years — almost 3% of HIV-infected people,» said fine.

She also said that in Russia the number of new cases of HIV is very high compared to other countries of the world, and it continues to grow. «The pace of growth, however, reduced. You might hear somewhere in an interview that the number of new cases in 2017 to 3% only increased, and in 2016 – by 5%. It’s really a little less than in previous years. But it is a radical contrast to the global trend, because in General, the countries of the world, the number of new HIV infections reduced, and we also expect these indicators to achieve. But while not easy we do it», — concluded the expert.
