The arrest of the former Minister of justice of Ukraine Oleksandr Lavrynovych said that Kiev is trying to fabricate criminal cases against their political opponents, the statement said ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych placed at the disposal of RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the Pechersk district court of Kiev arrested Lavrynovych until November 2 as part of the case for «constitutional coup of 2010».

«The arrest of ex-Minister of justice Alexander Lavrinovich is the agony of political revenge of the current top authorities of Ukraine, which is trying to fabricate criminal cases against their political opponents», — said Yanukovych.

According to him, «the next «bubble» will be the matter for which Oleksandr Lavrynovych was behind bars because he, as the Minister has complied with prescribed statutory functions». «The attempts and threats of arrest to «correct» for the prosecution’s testimony only confirms that no evidence of anybody’s guilt in this case is not» — said Yanukovych.

The former President added that «it is strange to hear from representatives of the current Ukrainian regime, organized the shooting of people on Maidan and the blood came to power, allegations of coup and seizure of power.»

He understood «the enormous pressure that the current government on the judges for making the necessary decisions,» but believes that «there are those who stand on the side of the law and cancel the illegal decision about the arrest of Oleksandr Lavrynovych».

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine informed formally notified the firm that he is a suspect in a criminal case «on the constitutional coup of 2010», when the constitutional court of Ukraine returned to the presidential-parliamentary form of government, by extending the powers of the President. The Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko stated that the status of the suspect in this case also has Yanukovych. According to the Prosecutor General, Lavrynovych and Yanukovych jointly with other persons made a «seizure of state power» illegally change the Constitution.

In mid-2010, 252 deputies (Party of regions and its allies in the Parliament) sent to the constitutional court of Ukraine the request with a demand to cancel the constitutional reform of 2004. So they wanted to restore the presidential-parliamentary form of government that would expand the powers of Yanukovych.

In September 2010, the constitutional court supported the initiative of the Party of regions and the Constitution back in 1996. This happened in spite of the law, as under the Constitution of Ukraine, changes in the text can only be taken by Parliament, that is required to hold a vote on two sessions with observance of all procedures (in particular, according to the revision of the Basic law and 1996, and 2004, is required to change the Constitution voted «constitutional majority» of 300 votes). In 2014 the Verkhovna Rada overturned the decision, returning the Constitution of 2004.

After a coup in Ukraine in February 2014, the new authorities want to prosecute Yanukovych and many former bureaucrats. In relation to the former Ukrainian authorities are being investigated criminal cases, in particular, about the theft of public funds, financial frauds, land-grabbing and abuse of office. Many former leaders of the country because of the threat of political persecution were forced to go abroad.
