«Unless theology can be a science? The priest lost at the University?» — the last time these questions are asked more often. In the Russian Academy of Sciences noted that such disputes divide society. Meanwhile, even among physicists and mathematicians there are supporters of the use of religion to science. About is whether the theology to create a quantum supercomputer — in the material RIA Novosti.

Arguing with atheists

Academician Alexey Parshin, many years engaged in the theory of numbers, recognizes the lack of compromise between religion and science in some issues. «A Christian view of world history from creation, through the incarnation of Christ and the end of the world in any way not consistent with modern science,» he says.

The same applies to the biblical idea of the creation of living beings — it is, according to the academician, «comes into sharp and fundamental conflict» with the theory of evolution. Insoluble, he says, is the controversy surrounding abortion, the opponents of which believe that man has a soul, appears at the moment of conception.

«Atheists believe these contradictions are fundamental. I believe that this needs to be discussed. But it’s serious work, which is not limited to simultaneous declarations,» — emphasizes Parshin.

«Science and religion have in common is experience,» he adds.

From the Bible to Einstein

However, the history knows many cases when scientists were inspired by the writings of religious figures. Academician cites the example of the history of Russian mathematics of the early XX century Alexander Friedman, rejected some of the provisions of the General theory of relativity of albert Einstein.

Friedman decided one of the gravitational equations of Einstein in such a way that proved the possibility of expansion of the Universe. German scientist criticized the decision, however, after a long correspondence in 1923, it turned out that I was wrong Einstein himself.

«My criticism was based on an error in the calculations. I believe the results of Friedman is correct and shed new light,» he admitted then.

However, the idea that the universe is not static and therefore not infinite, was noted by Friedman from St. Augustine, who lived in the V century BC.

«Friedman cites in his writings the passages from Augustine,» — says academician Parshin.

Help Buddhists

Academician Parshin are not alone in the opinion that these are sacred to religions of books can be used in science. For example, a number of Russian experts in the field of neurobiology, neurolinguistics, philosophy and psychology dealing with the problem of consciousness, recently turned to the experience of Buddhists.

«The number of empirical data that we have, growing every minute. We went to some dead end, because we don’t know what to do. We can decompose these data are on the shelves and, of course, there are ways of treatment, but then not going anywhere. From what I will consider each of your cell, will not leave any impression that you a person. From what I head shrunk and each neuron out, I can’t get a picture of how this works. Well, another 30 billion neurons examined — what next? What question you answer? No. Need a genius who would say, correctly formulating the questions, ask another question. Clearly the time has come when in desperate need for a new theory. In Buddhist philosophy really worked out these issues. So narochnym need to study it,» — emphasizes the doctor of biological Sciences, doctor of philological Sciences neurolinguist Tatiana Chernigovskaya.

Scientists are greatly concerned about the question: how to explain the connection between thought and brain, when the thought has no physical dimensions, such as, for example, mass and length? It is, in their words, is «complex problem of consciousness.»

«From a Buddhist point of view there are several levels of consciousness from the gross to the subtle. And consciousness is not entirely brain-related. Different levels of consciousness are manifested, for example, when in a dream we don’t have feelings, but are conscious of, or when the person faints. Even when people died, we (the Buddhists. — Approx. ed) we know that consciousness remains» — said the Russian scientists, the Dalai Lama at a recent meeting in India.
Fact or speculation?

In modern Judaism, it is possible to meet a number of works showing that the compilers of the Bible were aware of some physical laws discovered only in the last 500 years. For example, according to this approach, in the biblical book of Ecclesiastes says about the law of conservation of mass (new substances not derived from anything and nothing): «I Know that everything that made Almighty, forever! It is impossible to add and no [opportunities] to take away.»

About the fact that the Earth is a molten core, it was alleged in the book of job, written in the V BC: «the Earth, from which food comes, is transformed below as by fire.»

A Jewish book of Zohar, written in the second century of our era, indicates the sphericity of the Earth: «the Whole inhabited world spins in space like a ball. Those at the bottom and those at the top, and all people differ from each other in appearance, color and facial structure under the influence of climate in different areas. But they are like other people. And therefore, there is a place where light and the other (at the same time) dark, these day, and these — night.»

Such «coincidences» unwittingly raise the question whether the ancients knew much more than us or is it just an attempt to make the Bible the status of the source of all knowledge about the world?

«I would put it down to speculation and to the somewhat primitive form of attempts to defend a religion that doesn’t need it. When we talk about scientific breakthroughs of the last 500 years, we are talking about experimental science which the sages of the Talmud and especially the hereafter (the Bible) was not known. We have to believe that the patriarchs interacted with God, but to try to sum up such findings to experimental scientific data is a simplification that does not hold water,» — said the head of public relations Department of the Federation of Jewish communities of Russia (FEOR), Boruch Gorin.

The Bible can be used «as a source of inspiration», but not as a textbook. All because she belongs to one sphere, and science towards entirely different.

«Scripture is not work worthy of a Nobel prize in physics. It is something much greater and completely different. You can simultaneously love the novels of Dostoevsky and read work in chemistry of the specific metal,» — concludes the representative of the FJC.
