«We are from a young age, knew that war with Russia is inevitable», — said the Minister of the Unitarian Church Nicholas Medina, the chaplain of the «Right sector»*. The priest faces the imminent collapse of Russia and its «Imperial cannon» — the Russian Orthodox Church — as God’s punishment for «the slaughter, arranged in the Donbas.»

Meanwhile the clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, which Medina dubbed «moskalsky» at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, announced: «We help everyone, regardless of party.» Of course, this could not to anger Kiev and Pro-government religious structure — Uniates and schismatic «Kiev Patriarchate».

About the priests in the Donbas and their role in the conflict in the material RIA Novosti.

Nationalists in robes

Officially the priests appeared in the Ukrainian army only in may 2017 (in fact to participate in the war they started back in 2014). The only religious organization, whose clergy, according to the command of the APU, cannot be the chaplain of the UOC — MP, although it is the largest in the country in the number of parishes and congregation. Especially tight chaplains cooperate with the nationalist battalions. Chaplain Nicholas Medina involved in this war from the beginning.

«For the first time with the participant of those events I had to say in about a week. It was our «pravosek», who managed to escape alive from the «green corridor». He told me how he fell shot by a sniper or a stray bullet… sister kept saying, «You will not believe… There are guys lying on the ground… Bodies all planted just… You don’t understand.» Something happened — he even switched off from time to time from the shock. And repeated: «You don’t understand… There are people screaming and crying…» — as Nicholas Medina describes the «Ilovajskij boiler», which got part of it in 2014.

During the fighting in the Donbass from attacks injured more than 90 Orthodox churches. Nine of them completely destroyed.
«If we are talking about small injuries like broken Windows or cracked fragments of the facade, they were eliminated almost immediately. Two completely destroyed the temple — wood Epiphany in Gorlovka and in honor of St. righteous John of Kronstadt in the Kirov — is still in ruins. Start recovery you need two conditions: the withdrawal of artillery, which so far are only on paper, and money,» — said the inhabitant of Gorlovka.

«The shells fell near the temple»

Three years ago, the temple Archpriest Alexander Sorokin in Avdeevka were literally between two fires. Despite this, the service it was done regularly.

«In Transfiguration we were in the service. Our parish — St. Nicholas — and the source are in the forest. On the one hand are the troops of the DPR, on the other — Mat, between the forest and the forest is our temple. I walked, mother, another man and our dog. 400 meters away from us began to fall «Grady». Began flying splinters, we fell to earth deaf for a while. Then he stood up, went to Church, prayed at the service. We have the lower Church in the basement, solid concrete, so not very scary. But just so you understand, the seven-branched candlestick, the entire service was chaotic, because the shells were falling 100 meters from the temple», — quotes the words of Archpriest of the Youth Department of the UOC-MP.

The priest recognized that in war people need very little — «just to be around them.»

«Oh, father came!» this means that all will be well. One presence you give hope. And when even the Holy water took, walked the streets, he sprinkled the house, went to everyone in the house with the words «God Save this house and all who live in it! Lord, save this town!» — so does all of their happiness is no limit,» he says.

«I had a clear understanding of what my place is where there is bleeding and expelled from their lands the Russian people, where the best people of Russia a sacrifice, speaking out against the obviously more powerful enemy. In such situations, the Russian people should not be a choice but to go to the front and die in a hopeless struggle,» — explains his action details for making.

Thus it knows about several priests who came to the place of fighting. «One of them was for a long time by state, and therefore could afford to care for the unit on a permanent basis, while the second, as I went on vacation. According to my information, then he was even wounded, but at the moment he is doing well… I Know of another worthy priest, who travels to the Donbass with humanitarian missions, but not as a chaplain,» he says.

Sam deacon said: «I was involved in the fighting, though not a combat unit» — part of the volunteer squad.

«Objectively it was the hardest in early August (2014), when the entire Donetsk were virtually surrounded, there were problems with the software, and we being in the rear of the structure, preparing to repel the attack on the military. Within a week or two we had come to an end, but the Lord willed otherwise,» he adds.

In 2015, the situation was much better, and in 2016, according to the observations of the deacon, Donetsk «is quite consistent with the status of the capital of the Republic, albeit small and poor».
