It is necessary to stimulate the renewal of passenger transport, said on Friday Russian President Vladimir Putin.

«You need to work incentives for the widespread upgrade of buses, trolleybuses, trams, other public transport, to find effective mechanisms of state support of modernization of the vehicle fleet»,- Putin said at a state Council meeting.

As noted by the head of state is not refusing government support, this segment of the economy should be market-based, self-sufficient. «It is clear that not just jump into this self-sufficiency, but neatly need to go to this, definitely need to do it, otherwise it will be limp, and will people ride on a crazy bus,» — said Putin.

The President stressed that it could be including on long-term contracts with carriers that will help them to plan their work.

Putin stressed that the condition of the vehicles — «their physical and moral wear and tear» is one of the main themes in the context of passenger transportation.

«Unfortunately, in recent years, the picture here is not improving, especially acute problem in rural areas»,- said the President.

The number of old vehicles increases, the President stated.
