EMERCOM of Russia will receive 1.2 thousand tons of construction materials as humanitarian aid to suffered from hurricane «Irma» Cuba, said the head EMERCOM of Russia Vladimir Puchkov.

On Saturday, the head of the emergencies Ministry holds talks with Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Cuba Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz.

«The decision of the leadership of the Russian Federation, in accordance with your appeal, the Ministry has already embarked on a humanitarian operation to deliver more than 1,200 tons of construction materials», — said Puchkov. The Minister noted that the goods will be sent to Cuba by sea from the port of Novorossiysk.

In turn, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz thanked the Russian Minister for services rendered by Cuba assistance and stressed that the hurricane «Irma» became the fifth hurricane of such strength and in contrast to the previous touched all regions of the country.

«According to information which comes from the Institute of our country, such phenomena were only five. And the previous hurricanes applied only to certain areas of Cuba, and this time the hurricane was these characteristics that he went through 10 provinces of Cuba, and passed from East to West with a five-point capacity,» said Ruiz.

He noted that the hurricane has caused great damage to the energy sector. «It we still failed to recover,» he said, adding that great damage caused to agriculture, in particular, large losses suffered by the sugarcane crop.

The Chairman of the Council of Ministers announced that, due to climate change increasing hurricane activity in the Caribbean region alternate with severe drought. «We need to conduct research on what effect these hurricanes are having on our country.
