The Russian company «Gazprom» took the first place in the ranking of the top 250 global energy companies in the S&P Global Platts, the message of this Agency.

Thus, «Gazprom» has risen from the third line, and shifted from the leadership of the American ExxonMobil, which ranked first for 12 years. In second place was Germany’s E. ON SE. The company showed the biggest jump, rising over the year with 114-go places. Third place went to the Indian Reliance Industries Ltd. (in 2016, took the 8th place).

The top ten also included the Korean Korea Electric Power Corp. (4th place), China Petroleum & Chemical Corp. (5th place), the Russian company «LUKOIL» (6), Indian Oil Corp. (7th place), American Valero Energy Corp. and ExxonMobil Corp. (8 and 9 respectively) and French Total (10).

As noted by S&P, Platts Global energy companies Asia Pacific occupy the highest positions in the ranking of 2017, accounting for 88 of the 250 seats. So, in the top five were Korean and two Chinese companies. In addition, 20 of 50 «fastest growing companies» (showing a sharp rise within the ratings for the year) established in the Asia Pacific region, the Agency said.

«As for the drops, then the coal companies showed a particularly strong decline in the rankings, as more countries seek to increase the use of renewable energy and cleaner fuels. But there are exceptions — China Shenhua Energy rose to 13th place from the 25th, as coal prices in China increased sharply after the reduction in production volumes in the country,» the Agency says.

Annual ranking of the top 250 global energy companies in the S&P Global Platts assesses companies based on their financial indices, in particular the four key performance indicators: the value of assets, income, earnings and profits from invested capital. All companies in the list have assets worth more than $ 5.5 billion. In total, the Agency estimated that the 10 largest companies in the world received in 2016 the total profit in the amount of 63.7 billion, 14% lower in annual terms.
