The Moscow Patriarchate on Monday issued a report on the movie «Matilda» two Russian historians, which, as follows from the summary of findings, described the painting as having «no relation to the historical events which it relates».

«The script of the film «Matilda» passed a few months ago for review two well-known Russian historians — President of the historical faculty of Moscow state University. M. V. Lomonosov, Professor, academician Sergei Pavlovich Karpov and supervisor of the State archives of the Russian Federation, head of chair of history of Russia XIX – early XX century, history faculty of Moscow state University Professor Sergey Mironenko has been on their part criticized», — stated in the message of the Synodal Department for Church and society and the media.

As noted by historians, the scenario of the film «has no relation to the historical events which it relates, except that only the names of the characters are true, and the heir-the crown Prince had an affair with Mathilde Kschessinska». Everything else, which you can see in the picture, Karpov and Mironenko called «sheer fiction very bad taste».

«Already the first scene brings a smile and a strong bewilderment. Mathilde Kschessinska did not run up to the choir of the Dormition Cathedral in the Moscow Kremlin during the coronation of Emperor Nicholas II, did not scream: «Nicky, Nicky!», and the Emperor did not faint. It’s all a fiction and script writer, evokes lines from the famous novel by Ilf and Petrov: «the Countess changed face runs to the pond». Only in Ilf and Petrov’s the grotesque and irony, and the script is a harsh «truth» of the lives of the characters is as it appears to the author,» says Professor of Moscow state University.

According to historians, who leads the Synodal Department, the screenplay is filled with inventions, not having any relation to real events, nor even to the feelings of the characters.

«That only is the scene when father Nicholas, the Emperor Alexander III picks for my son’s mistress from among the dancers of the Mariinsky theatre. Do I need to explain that such vulgarity could be born only in the mind of a man, not having a clue about the real relations in the Royal family, and in the court environment,» said Karpov and Mironenko.

Historians recalled that while the Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna was not a sinless people, their lives and relationships have no place of vulgarity in the script of the film. «Their lives were different situations, and their activity is evaluated differently by historians. There was only one thing — vulgarity and dirt. Namely, the filth and dirt of the lowest class, the screenplay gives for historical truth», — stated in the conclusion.

The movie «Matilda» about the fate of the ballerina Matilda Kschessinska, and fell in love with future Emperor Nicholas II. Long before the release of the movie caused a public outcry. The Deputy of the state Duma Natalia Poklonskaya has asked the Prosecutor General to check the film — according to her, experts and scholars made a comprehensive examination of the materials of the film, which showed that «Matilda» image doesn’t match the image of the Russian Orthodox Church canonized the Emperor Nicholas II. The Minister of culture Vladimir Medinsky has declared that he is revolted by deliberately escalate around picture of hysteria, despite the fact that this is a «normal film».
