Former President of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) academician Vladimir Fortov supported the candidacy of academician Alexander Sergeev on elections of the head wounds.

«Choosing a new President (Academy of Sciences), we should pay attention to the fact that it must be a person who uses and our respect, and esteem of government,» Fortier said, speaking on Monday at a General meeting of the RAS among the other Trustees in support of candidates.

He noted that Sergeev is a renowned scholar who made significant contributions, particularly in creating technology that has helped recently the international team of scientists record the existence of gravitational waves, which is called one of the main discoveries in the history of science.

FORTS added that headed by Sergeev Institute of applied physics in Nizhny Novgorod actively engaged and defense work, actively cooperating with the Russian Federal nuclear center in Sarov.

«I know I’m in the last election (in March of this year), many were ready to give their votes. If I could, I’d give it to Alexander Sergeyev,» said FORTS.

FORTS was headed by Russian Academy of Sciences in the years 2013-2017.

Candidates for the highest office in RAS are five people — the General Director of the Russian research Institute of aviation materials (VIAM, Moscow) academician Yevgeny Kablov, Director of JSC «NII of molecular electronics and plant «Mikron» (Zelenograd) academician Gennady Krasnikov, head of the research Institute of Oceanology behalf Shirshov (Moscow), academician Robert Nigmatulin, Chairman of the Board of the Russian Foundation for basic research, academician Vladislav Panchenko, Director of the Institute of applied physics (Nizhny Novgorod) academician Alexander Sergeyev.

A secret ballot will begin on Tuesday morning.
