Ankara will take all measures based on international law and the authority granted by the Turkish Parliament in the event of threats to its national security after the referendum in the Kurdish autonomy of Iraq, the statement said Turkish foreign Minister.

Earlier, the head of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani stated that the region will not postpone a referendum on independence from Baghdad, despite the pressure, and hold it as scheduled on September 25. In Baghdad believe the referendum illegal, against his conduct voted by the Parliament. Iraqi authorities believe that the referendum violates the country’s Constitution and called for its repeal.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Turkey at the meeting held under the chairmanship of President Tayyip Erdogan has taken a series of measures in response to the referendum on independence in the Kurdish autonomy of Iraq, which will be announced later. The Turkish Parliament at an extraordinary meeting on Saturday extended for another year the permission to use the Turkish armed forces in Iraq and Syria.

«We will take all measures based on international law and the authority granted by the Turkish Parliament in the case that some radical elements and terrorists will try to exploit the situation after the referendum and will try to carry out the actions directed against our national security» — it is told in received RIA Novosti news Agency the statement of the Turkish foreign Ministry.

Again it is noted that Ankara considers the referendum is a big mistake, and its results null and void and without any legal consequences.

«We are concerned that far from common sense, an attempt taken by the leadership of the Kurdish regional administration, which insisted on holding a referendum, despite all the warnings of Turkey and the international community, and thereby jeopardized the peace and stability not only in Iraq but in the region», — stated in the document.

«It is important that the international community, particularly countries in the region, has maintained a consistent approach which they show to the referendum and did not recognize the consequences of illegal activities. In the future it is imperative that the leadership of the Kurdish regional administration pursued a policy that serves long-term peace and prosperity of the Iraqi people, instead of to follow short-term political interests and utopian aspirations,» said Turkish foreign Minister.
