UN agencies should be on the path of objectivity in the Crimean issue and to prohibit their missions to spread unverified reports accusing Russia of human rights violations in the Crimea, said the head of the Crimean government Committee on inter-ethnic relations Zaur Smirnov.

The report of the monitoring mission of the office of the UN high Commissioner for human rights, published on Monday, said that human rights in Crimea massively violated after its accession to the Russian Federation, including the authorities of Ukraine and Russia. The report focused on the situation of human rights in the Russian Crimea, which in the mission is called Ukrainian territory, «occupied by Russia». The document covers the period from 22 February 2014 to 12 September 2017. While the mission indicated that they did not have access to the territory of Crimea and his assessment of the situation with human rights on the Peninsula was carried out remotely, from Ukraine.

«The UN should be demanding the information, voiced by various monitoring missions. We encourage to take the path of objectivity in relation to the Crimean people and stick to only the proven facts. But for the sake of political expediency to replicate what is not. The main purpose of all the statements to discredit the Russian authorities in the Crimea, and from there the far-fetched conclusions about violations of the rights of Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars,» — said RIA Novosti Smirnov.

According to him, it is unacceptable to make unsubstantiated conclusions about the state of human rights in the Crimea, without asking the opinion of Crimeans themselves and not even having been on the Peninsula. At the same time, Smirnov said that even the UN can no longer remain silent to the crimes that are committed by official Kiev against the Crimean region, arranging all kinds of blockade.

«The appearance of the report mention of the violation of human rights on the part of Kiev, which is trying to isolate the Peninsula all sorts of blockades, gives Crimeans hope for fair treatment to them by the UN. I am sure that in the future Kiev government will be responsible for these actions», — said Smirnov.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which 96.77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russia. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014. Ukraine still considers Crimea its but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to the Russian President, the question of Crimea «closed permanently».
