Life on Earth exists today due to the fact that in the Solar system there are no large «super-Earth» whose attraction will «target» them near asteroids to other planets, says the article placed in electronic library

«Asteroids, as a rule, are a big threat to any life forms – to verify this assertion, it suffices to look at the dinosaurs. On the other hand, they are extremely important for its origin, so how can they be one of the main sources of water and «blocks of life» to the Earth and other planets where there is life.» says Rebecca Martin (Rebecca Martin) at the University of Nevada in Las Vegas (USA).

Earth is currently the only known planet that has life. Over the last ten years astronomers have discovered nearly two thousand planets, many of which are similar to Earth in size and physical properties, but, most likely, deprived of life.

These discoveries led scientists to think about what distinguishes our planet from all its «cousins», and what features of its birth and evolution could make it suitable for the emergence of the first living creatures and their survival for the last 3.5-4 billion years. Martin and her colleagues found one of these damn Solar system, which may explain the absence of life on other planets.

Watching the birth of the Earth and other planets in the virtual version of the Solar system, scientists have changed its architecture by adding or removing from the planet. When planetary scientists «stuck» in her large «super Earth», placing it into orbit of the hypothetical Phaeton, non-existent planet between the orbit of Mars and Jupiter, and between Venus and the Earth, something happened.

It turned out that the emergence of large rocky planets, even at fairly large distances from Earth led to the fact that our planet started to shell a huge amount of asteroids for a very long time after its formation. On average, the appearance of such a planet between Earth and Venus increased the number of asteroids that have fallen to the Ground, 1.5-3 times.

More frequent collisions, as the scientists explain, happens for the reason that gravity «super-Earth» will be conducted by the movement of the asteroids found in the zone between the orbits of Mars and Saturn, and periodically near Earth. The presence of large planets in the inner Solar system much «pulled» to their orbits, making them more likely to bond with the Earth and occasionally fall on its surface.

Fortunately, like the planets in our Solar system, making Earth escaped the fall of many large asteroids after the origin of life on its surface. On the other hand, almost all the known exoplanets system, where there is a potential «counter-Earth» where the planet, which may partially explain why scientists have not yet found traces of extraterrestrial life.

Interestingly, the presence of such object beyond the orbit of the Earth on the contrary, would reduce the frequency of collisions of asteroids with our planet. Scientists believe that the same would adversely affect the chances of the birth of the Earth, as then it would be on its surface was much less water and «building blocks» of life in the first stages of the Solar system.
