Mortality in Russia decreased by 2.5% in the first eight months of 2017, compared to the same period last year; thus, during this period managed to preserve 31.2 thousands of lives more than a year earlier, reported the press service of the Ministry of health with reference to the words of the head of Department Veronika Skvortsova.

«For the first eight months of this year, according to Rosstat, the population mortality rate compared to the same period last year declined by 2.5% and amounted to 12.7 cases per 1000 population (eight months of 2016 to 13.0). This means that for the first eight months of 2017 could be maintained at 31.2 thousand human lives more than the previous year», — said Skvortsova.

According to the Minister, a reduction in mortality from all major causes. Especially significant is the mortality from tuberculosis – 17.7% (6.5 per 100 thousand people), diseases of the respiratory system – 10% (43.4 per 100 thousand people), including pneumonia – 19.5 per cent (17.7 per 100 thousand people), diseases of the digestive system – 4.5% (63,0 100 thousand people), diseases of the circulatory system – by 3.7% (596,4 per 100 thousand people).

«I have to emphasize the reduction of mortality from neoplasms by 3% (196,9 per 100 thousand population), and for the first time, the mortality rate from malignant neoplasms reached 194,3 per 100 thousand population, i.e. the target. Decreased mortality and external causes of 10.6% (95,7 per 100 thousand population) from accidents by 8%, accidental poisoning by alcohol was 20.3 per cent,» added the Minister.

According to her, for this year, held a historic low infant mortality rate, which for the first eight months decreased by 12%, amounting to 5.3 per 1000 live births (eight months 2016 — 6,0).
