Thousands of students and senior schoolchildren in Barcelona came on Thursday for a rally in support of a referendum on Catalan independence, scheduled for October 1, according to Spanish Agency EFE.

The action takes place on the square near the University of Barcelona. Young demonstrators Express support for freedom of expression and the right to decide their future in scheduled for October 1, the referendum that the Spanish authorities declared illegal.

The referendum, which the government of Catalonia is going to hold on October 1, according to 60% of Catalans, is not legitimate and may not have any legal consequences.
